The One Pound Transformation

Today is a good day. I weighed yesterday and am quite happy with the results. Did I lose 3 pounds? Nope. How about 2 pounds? Nope. I lost a big, fat pound and a half. So why am I happy about that? Well, even though I fussed and moaned about losing 1 measly pound last week I have now had a transformation (no, not of body.... I'm still chunky) but of mind. I am so happy with the 1-1/2 pounds that I got a little something for you Yoda. Here you go buddy, some yummy trail mix and a cherry lollipop (that fits nicely tucked in your little belt)! I think I am finally beginning to understand the Force and have definitely learned a thing or two about patience.

Let me explain what happened that made me change my mind. As I said before, I am on blood thinners and my INR (blood test results) are suppose to be between 2.0 and 2.5. For the last three weeks it has ranged between 1.7 and 1.9. So I went on the internet researching what to eat while on Coumadin to make sure I was not messing up the results with my diet.

As I looked at website after website I noticed that they all said you should not be dieting while on Coumadin. What the crap! My doctor never told me that! As a matter of fact, he was the one acting like my fairy godmother with his whole "I wish you would lose some weight" comment.  None of the sites said why you shouldn't try to lose weight so I made the mistake of googling "Coumadin and weight loss". Thousands of sites popped up, all with the same theme. Tons and tons of people who have GAINED weight while on Coumadin! As a read story after story of people who have gained 10-40 pounds and who cannot seem to lose it, I became darn happy to be losing anything at all! Many of these people are depressed, experience fatigue and/or shortness of breathe when trying to exercise.

After reading this I decided to shut my chubby lips and count my blessings no matter how small! The Coumadin fairy giveth and she can taketh away! (And yes, I picture her as some thin, slinky little vixen with an attitude problem.... did I mention I hate her?) Also compounding the problem is the fact that while on Coumadin you are suppose to avoid foods that are high in vitamin K. What foods would this be? Well of course it is "diet" type foods such as lettuce, green leafy vegetables, etc. Leave it to me to be put on the one medication that actually limits healthy foods.  Just another wonderful hurdle I have to cross (bring it on, I'm fighting you all the way with a carrot stick in one hand and some sugar-free applesauce in the other)!

On a positive note, I went to see the traveling Broadway show Hairspray. It was fabulous! We made a big night of it and went to dinner at a hip new downtown restaurant before the show. The only downer? The pictures we took before leaving. Ugh. And I thought I was looking thinner (psych)! Anyway, my teenagers really enjoyed the show too (I had a 15 year old girl singing in one ear and an 18 year old boy humming in the other). You have got to love a story where a chubby girl is the star. Yep, Tracy Turnblad, your my hero. Singing and dancing without a care in the world (you were working those chubby thighs girl.... truly fabulous). Too bad it doesn't work that way in real life. How come you never see a hefty girl in a sparking dress at Publix, with the hot guy by her side and a whole shopping cart full of Twinkies?

Congratulations on losing a pound and a half! (I'm in the same boat, only minus the coumadin-- working on losing some of this excess body).

Sounds like you did lose some baggage....in your mind! I'm proud for you and of you. Remember...it IS what it IS, and sometimes you can't do anything about it. SO, keep exercising and stop worrying so much. Enjoy every day, and we WILL get through this...and come out on the other side a little thinner!!

Citykitty, so said the kitty, so it shall be. After all this I had better come out thinner (or me and that fairy are going to fight!)
