Drum Roll Please........

Posted by X.I.R in , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I was getting ready this morning and happened to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror wearing only my underwear. When I could see again (yes I was momentarily blinded), I noticed something strange. I thought I looked smaller. I turned from side to side and decided there had definitely been some shrinkage. I usually wait till Saturday to weigh (hoping some miracle will occur with each additional day) but decided today that I would go ahead and weigh myself to see if there really had been some weight loss. Imagine my surprise when I got the results (drum roll please....) I lost 3.1 pounds this week! Thats right, after 3 weeks of staying the same, I finally started losing again. That feels downright S-W-E-E-T!

Last week I ordered the GoWear Fit to help get me past my "plateau" and then managed to lose 3 pounds on my own. I'm really happy with the loss and still glad I bought the Go Wear Fit. What? Still happy even though I spent over $200 when it is apparent that I can lose weight without it? Yes, and I'll tell you why. I had forgotten (since I have been fat for a coon's age) that I am a "See Saw" dieter. It has always been that way for me. I usually manage to lose weight but it follows the same pattern: Lose good for two weeks, slight gain next week, slight loss week after that, then stay the same for several weeks then repeat cycle. Eventually the losses outweigh the gains and I reach my goal BUT it always seems to take me way longer than the normal person. I am hoping my GoWear Fit will allow me to spend more of that time losing instead of just hanging out on the See Saw. My GoWear Fit should ship next week so I will keep you posted.

Now, what exactly happened that made me get these fab results? I think it was a combination of 3 things:

1) I became frustrated. I was so tired of seeing the same weight week after week. It was always on my mind when I ate and exercised. I think it drove me to exercise harder and eat smarter.

2) I cleaned out my closet. Yes, that probably burned off a few calories but I also found something very important..... inspiration. As I waded through the piles of clothes, sorting, folding and hanging, I stumbled upon all my "narrow butt clothes". They were hidden up in the very top of the closet and they brought back a flood of memories. Good, flat stomach, feel your hipbones memories. I could picture myself when I wore those items and even better, I could remember how great I felt. I thought I would share a few of my finds with you:

My super soft, snug, faded army t-shirt with the bright yellow tank. I loved this shirt so much. I would typically wear it with a pair of faded jeans and some flip flops. Now if I managed to get it on, it would look like the tank was climbing up a hill (a big belly hill).

Ahhhh. My black velvet skinny pants. Very cool in all their outdated glory. I can remember wearing these and feeling like a rock star. Now I just look like I ate a rock star.

3) The final factor in this 3 pound weight loss? I got two words for you: Kickboxing class. I returned this week and she wore me out. That lady is vicious. Even the spandex clan were dropping like flies. Now I kinda understand what the last chance workout on Biggest Loser is like. I ran up and down a long hall holding a 10 pound ball straight out in front of me. I "monkey" walked (on my hands and feet like Mowgli from the Jungle Book) across the gym floor and I did about a thousand crunches till something in my side clamped up like a vice. It was a nonstop, sweat pouring, side aching, sore for two days workout. Every time we slowed down she would turn on us and yell "Do you guys want to lose or what!?" and every time we quit chanting (yes, I chanted a little..... peer pressure) she yelled "I can't hear you!" Um that is probably because half the class is passed out on the floor. She may be militant, but as long as she keeps knocking the weight off my butt then she's my hero. But in all honesty, the gray spandex unitard short set has to go (even if she is fit)!

Post note: I updated my figures but you may notice the numbers don't seem exactly right. These are the accurate numbers. I went to the original numbers and then the numbers I obtained yesterday to make sure I got the subtraction correct. In those 3 weeks of "staying the same" I did not change the numbers if they showed a gain or loss of less than half a pound. Now they are accurate.

I love your blog! By the way I am going through the same thing too.. trying to the weight too! What type of food do you eat for your diet? Would love some tips... I have gained some much weight due to a thyroid problem... anyway been doing exercise, hot yoga etc to try to loose it! Well done!

Thanks Glitzer! It definitely is a challenge to lose weight but I am convinced that as long as a person keeps trying then it will eventually happen! I eat a wide variety of foods but lean towards mostly low-fat, lean protein and high fiber. I eat lots of fresh fruit like bananas, green grapes and blueberries (mostly for breakfast and snacks). I also eat bagelfuls, hi-fiber waffles with peanut butter, veggie sausages, egg beaters and hi-fiber oatmeal for breakfast. I try to almost always pack my lunch and take stuff like frozen smart ones with salad, applesauce and a weight watchers brownie or a baked potato with light sour cream, broccoli and yogurt or grill chicken breast with mashed potatoes and veggies. Stuff like that. I just make sure the majority of the food is fruit/vegetable, whole grain/ hi-fiber or lean protein. I do indulge a couple times a day in foods that don't fall within these categories such as fat free pringles, weight watcher snack cakes, Luigis itlian ice, etc. but only 1 portion, no more than 2 times daily. I eat pretty good at supper but keep portions small especially if it is something like pasta or rice. If I cook lean meat (fish, shrimp, steak or chicken) and veggies or low fat soup with grilled sandwiches then I can have larger portions. It really just depends on the type of day I am having and how hungry I am! I try to cook a wide range of different meals so I don't get bored and try new low fat recipes off the internet and out of magazines. I of course only use light cheese, sour cream, and milk (I love light vanilla soy milk by Silk). I also drink water like it is going out of style. Mostly plain spring water but when that gets old I will add lemon or a crystal light packet. Exercise is also key! I try to exercise pretty aggressively 4-5 days a week if possible. Hope that helps. Thanks for commenting and keep me posted on your progress!

So proud of you....it's good to see you smile...in fact, I hardly recognized you!

Time for a Yoda quote: "Do or do not... there is no try.”

Just took my first 'pill' to combat my latest infirmity. If the thyroid truly is failing, then there's MY excuse. It's been all I could do to get out of bed, so of course, when we feel that way, reach for those fries or other such bad, but comforting food.

It will be a new week on Monday, and maybe this medication will have kicked in and I'll feel like walking again instead of plopping my big derriere in a chair and staying there.

You keep smiling, you Big Loser you! (And I say that affectionately, you know that!) Hey...maybe we need to get THAT tattoed on OUR butts!

:)

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I am so happy for you1 <3 I got out and took a walk on a trail today. It was so nice to get out of the house. It was just over 50 and the trail was a foot deep of mud but that sure didn't bother me and my 3 yr old. We had a wonderful time. Got out there just before the snow is going to hit again this weekend!!!
Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for the info!!! Yea I think definitely keeping active and keeping on my toes is very important!!! Good tips on the variety of food.. I try to stick to a high fibre, low fat and lean protein diet too. Oatmeal seems to be the best as it fills me up in the morning, making me snack less... i just have to keep myself motivated with the work out... Good luck to you!!! Will keep track on each other!!! :o)

City Kitty, I understand so much how it feels to be draggin! That is how I gained all this weight. When I was rustling up those blood clots I didn't want to do anything but lay around. The funny part was my appetite didn't leave no matter how sick I got. I hope your medicine help your "get up and go"!

Oh and yes, I am pretty happy (I haven't smacked my stuffed Yoda in quite a while)!

February 28, 2009 9:10 AM

Karrie, thanks!!! I was really excited :) Good for you for taking a walk. I like walking too but lately have been leaning toward Zumba, kickboxing and my step thingy. I wish it would snow here! I haven't seen real snow in years! (I still love Chattanooga though, it is real pretty and artsy)

February 28, 2009 9:13 AM

Glitzer, Yes, lets keep track, share tips and keep each other motivated. We all can do this!

February 28, 2009 9:17 AM

Yay! Congrats! I'm still working on my very sticky last 10 pounds of body fat.

March 1, 2009 4:39 PM

YAY!! Oh I'm so happy for you!! Here's hoping you keep on losing ;-)

March 1, 2009 5:27 PM

Elisa, thanks and congrats to you! I can't wait to only have 10 pounds to go! (Even though those last few pounds seem to be the hardest) :)

Stitch Witch, Thank you! I appreciate the congrats. I hope I keep losing too! Seeing the results on the scale does increase your motivation, I hate staying the same!

I just found your blog on an Etsy thread.

I LOVE it!!!

So...I am now a follower :)

I didn't get to go through it all yet...but I was just wondering if you stopped eating refined sugar?

I have not used refined (or any other chemically made) sugar for anything other than bathing id for over a month now. My energy levels are through the roof and because refined sugar is BAD carb....I lose about 3 pounds a week.

The only exercises I really do are crunches, squats, and some push ups...I hate my fat arms more than anything else!!

Thanks for your blog!!

My fiance (a man) and I are doing Weight Watchers, and he (the man) is totally losing way more weight than me and I hate him (bastard).

But ahhh I love this blog!

Fox's Bunny, Hey and welcome! I am glad you decided to follow my blog and LOVE that you LOVE it! I am assuming by refined sugar you mean table sugar? If so, I don't eat it or even buy it. I like to buy the chemical stuff like Splenda with the added fiber for me and Equal for the rest of the family. But that doesn't mean I don't consume (sometimes inhale!) sugary foods. I do but try to only in moderation. I like fiber bars, ice cream, pudding, etc. I try to get sugar free (for jello or pudding) but don't worry about it otherwise (as long as whatever I am eating is lowfat). I also try not to have more than two servings of sugary stuff a day at most and usually less than that. 3 pounds a week is awesome! Keep us all informed of your progress :)

Christine, hey and welcome! Thanks for following! Don't even get me started on my hubby. Whenever he has gained a few extra pounds he skips a meal or two, ups his workouts and loses about 10 pounds in a week. Sickening! I am glad you love my blog!

March 4, 2009 5:56 PM

Just stopped by and thought I'd offer up congrats too. The black velvet pants are da bomb. :)

March 5, 2009 5:45 AM

Hey Charlie Hills! Thanks for the congrats. Them pants are kickin like chicken aren't they? :)

March 5, 2009 7:28 PM

Well sis congrats! I will say this...the gowear fit has definitely stopped the illusion that I am eating good and that I can skip my exercise "because I got exercise cleaning the house". Though cleaning the house did burn calories, it was only enough to give me a 300 calorie deficit when subtracted from all the food I had eaten that day. Additionally, when I thought I was "eating light" (pickled beets, pickled okra, cottage cheese, yogurt-- yes in one night---and no I am not pregnant), the gowear fit made me aware that my choices were either super high in sodium or fat.

So hopefully this little gem will help me get a clearer and more honest perspective on my eating!

I have however managed to loose 1" in my waistline, 1/2" in my arms, 1" in my bum and 2" in my bust (why is that the boobs are always first to go?)

Well, until next time....Keep thinking skinny thoughts!

Yes sis, I too have high hopes and am fixing to post about my experience with the GoWear Fit in my post later today. But I do have to say pickled beets, pickled okra, cottage cheese, and yogurt all in one night is nasty. Plum nasty.
